The Kishushe Ranching Cooperative Society Limited has dismissed as false and misleading reports circulating online claiming that its leadership has been summoned by authorities in Nairobi.

In an official clarification dated 6 January 2026, the Society stated that it has not been summoned by the Cabinet Secretary or the Ministry of Mining and Blue Economy, contrary to assertions shared on social media platforms.

According to the statement signed by the Society’s Secretary, Wilfred Mwalimo Kililo, the leadership is instead attending a formally scheduled consultative engagement with the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Mining and Blue Economy.

“The Society has not been summoned by the Cabinet Secretary or the Ministry. Rather, the leadership of the Cooperative is attending a formally scheduled consultative engagement convened to constructively deliberate and resolve outstanding mining-related matters affecting Kishushe Community Ranch,” the statement reads in part.

The Cooperative emphasized that the engagement is anchored on the principles of Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) as provided for in the Constitution of Kenya, the Mining Act of 2016, and international best practices.

The clarification further emphasized that decisions relating to mineral resources on community land must be undertaken lawfully, transparently, and with the full participation and informed consent of the affected community.

The Society reaffirmed its firm position that community land rights, fair benefit sharing, and sustainable resource development must remain central to all mining engagements, adding that no decision should be made without the knowledge, participation, and express consent of the community.

“We reaffirm our commitment to structured institutional dialogue, respect for due process, and the protection of the collective interests of the people of Kishushe and the wider Taita Taveta County,” the statement noted.

The Cooperative urged the public to disregard misinformation circulating online and to rely on official communication channels for accurate updates regarding engagements involving Kishushe Ranch.
